I think you make a really good point in that if the music isn’t accessible to new generations in the spaces in which they engage with music then that music will get forgotten. I’m not sure if this is sad or if it is just the way things go.
But it does remind me of that old line by Abe Simpson - “I used to be with it, and then they changed what it was. Now what I’m with isn’t it, and what’s it seems weird and scary to me”
Isn't it the natural order of popular culture? Values and relevance change with each generation. I still listen to the Beatles, but they were a cornerstone of my childhood in the mid-Sixties. Their great records were all released by 1970, or 53 years ago. That span of time is like a teenager in 1967 listening to the first recordings of King Oliver and Louis Armstrong in 1923. Plus they had a short career from 1963-1970 then broke up. Would have been fascinating to see them evolve over the next 10-20 years. I'd trade all of McCartney's solo work, except the first solo album, to see that.

Great read by the way.
Thank you!

I would have to agree! It's been fun to see all the excitement and discussion over the release of 'Now and Then'.
